Who we are

Don Magazine is a community of artist from around the world based in Osaka, Japan.

Founded in 2022, Don Magazine is an all-volunteer production. Our team is composed of professionals, teachers, artists, designers, translators, and authors who share a deep appreciation for art and culture. We aim to spotlight voices shaped by the everyday, from the streets of Osaka to communities around the globe. Whether it is a teacher sketching at home before work or a poet writing notes on a late-night train, Don Magazine is a space for creative expression.

Our mission is to cultivate a community that values creativity in all its forms. We provide a platform for emerging and underrepresented voices across disciplines.

Why Don?

Don Magazine gets its name from the Japanese word donburi (丼), a bowl used for Japanese rice meals.

Just like a donburi relies on a constant base—rice—while welcoming a virtually endless variety of toppings like fish, pork, or beef, Don Magazine functions as a reliable vessel for artistic expression. The core framework and identity of the magazine remain consistent, but the content, visual styles, creative media, and thematic focus shift with every issue. Don Magazine serves as the ultimate creative bowl: one solid foundation, infinite possibilities for what goes on top.
